George Segal Gallery
The George Segal Gallery is intent on becoming a premiere destination for modern and contemporary art. The gallery serves as a testament to Montclair State University’s commitment to be a major center for the visual arts, and share its rich array of intellectual and cultural resources with the people of New Jersey.

The George Segal Gallery welcomes visitors to a wonderful new state of the art facility. Boasting 7200 square feet of exhibition, activity and work space the gallery is conveniently located adjacent to the Alexander Kasser Theatre complex.

George Segal is a world-renowned American artist, and the George Segal Gallery at MSU is proud to carry his name. Segal’s famous Street Crossing is now part of the University collection, thanks to the George and Helen Segal Foundation, and is permanently installed in the Alexander Kasser Plaza. Along with the exhibits of the gallery’s namesake, the George Segal Gallery hosts a number of changing exhibitions from local, regional, national and international artists, as well as works by University faculty and students.

In addition, the gallery hosts educational programs and events related to the permanent collection, as well as special exhibitions. Receptions, round table discussions, symposia, school and community tours and workshops, and family events are regularly programmed.

The Symposium will primarily cover the wall hangings that were obscured by circumstances surrounding their making for over 30 years. Admission is limited. Early registration is encouraged.

Alexander Calder: Textiles and Tradition
This Tour+Workshop will introduce you to the Alexander Calder exhibition, paying special attention to role that Central American artisans played in the completion of the pieces. The workshop will explore the longstanding culture and traditions surrounding the art of braiding and weaving. The workshop will conclude with a craft project, and participants will leave the class with a small braided object of their making.
