Cross-Cultural Collaboration
and the Making of Other Suns
Sat. Oct. 17th @ 7pm
Alexander Kasser Theater Lobby
Explore the splendor of Other Suns, a trilogy of dances created by Margaret Jenkins and her company in a cross-cultural collaboration with the Guangdong Modern Dance Company of China. Through an intricate combination of contemporary dance forms, the work investigates symmetry and asymmetry in both Chinese and American culture. Other Suns transcends national and cultural barriers, offering a perspective on balance and imbalance, risk and rest in our rapidly evolving global society.
Co-commissioned by Peak Performances @ Montclair State University, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Live music preparation commissioned by Peak Performances @ Montclair State University.

Washington Post sheds a little love on Margaret Jenkins' OTHER SUNS.
Village Voice reviews OTHER SUNS: The choreography is a panoply of swirling, flying motion, of clusters breaking apart, of contrapuntal patterns, of quiet moments for two or three.
Star-Ledger's Robert Johnson on OTHER SUNS: Tantalizing and beautiful...hints at the marvels that lie just beyond one's grasp.
