Newband, Ensemble-in-Residence at Montclair State University, is known worldwide for the preservation of Harry Partch’s instruments in combination with innovative new music commissions. Recently the ensemble performed Partch’s masterwork Delusion of the Fury at Japan Society in New York to tremendous acclaim. On September 13th, Newband will feature the newer side of its repertoire featuring works by Elizabeth Brown, David Lang, Annea Lockwood and Newband co-director Dean Drummond, as well as George Crumb’s classic Eleven Echoes of Autumn. Lockwood’s and Drummond’s work will feature the 31-tomes per octave zoomoozophone, invented by Drummond. Elizabeth Brown will perform on the shakuhachi in her piece Acadia.
