A.I.M by Kyle Abraham is a contemporary dance company rich with influences across genres and disciplines while remaining unmistakably its own. Described by award-winning Founder and Artistic Director Kyle Abraham as a “post-modern gumbo rooted in social dance practice,” the company produces provocative, dance-forward experiences that spotlight overlooked perspectives with depth and humanity.

Founded in 2006 and based in New York City, A.I.M has spent two decades at the forefront of the field. It has earned recognition for its “lush movement, infectious music and magnetic dancers..." (The New York Times), becoming one of the most acclaimed touring ensembles in the world. Grounded in a commitment to reshaping how artists are supported, the company provides dancers with 52-week salaries and retirement benefits, alongside royalty payments in perpetuity for their role in the creation of new work. This fall, Classic Films Now kicks off with a three-film series devoted to 1976, a remarkable year in American cinema and a revealing moment in the nation’s cultural imagination. Released in the shadow of Watergate, Vietnam, urban crisis, and the Bicentennial, All the President’s Men, Network, and Rocky offer three sharply different portraits of American life at a time of great transition and uncertainty.

Screenings will be introduced and hosted by Rafer Guzmán. Rafer writes about movies, music, and popular culture for Newsday. He has been a film critic for WNYC, a co-host of the independent podcast “Movie Therapy,” and a staff writer at The Wall Street Journal.

About The Hands Free: The Hands Free is an acoustic quartet, bringing together the creative voices of composer/performers James Moore (guitar & banjo), Caroline Shaw (violin), Nathan Koci (accordion), and Eleonore Oppenheim (bass). Drawing from an eclectic array of influences in classical, jazz and folk traditions, the group produces a unique and evocative blend of joyful melodies, lush sonic textures and explosive improvisations.

About Dance Heginbotham: Dance Heginbotham (DH) is a New York-based contemporary dance company committed to supporting, producing, and performing the work of choreographer John Heginbotham. With an emphasis on collaboration, DH enriches national and international communities with its unique blend of inventive, thoughtful, and rigorous dance theater works. Founded in 2011, DH had its world premiere in January 2012 at The Kennedy Center and has been presented by major venues throughout the US including Bard SummerScape, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Hopkins Center for the Arts, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Works Process at The Guggenheim, among many others. DH has shared the stage with luminaries of the music world including Alarm Will Sound, Brooklyn Rider, The Knights, National Symphony Orchestra, Joshua Bell, André de Ridder, and Eric Jacobsen, and has commissioned new scores from composers Tyondai Braxton, Ethan Iverson, and Colin Jacobsen. DH has collaborated with designers and artists Maira Kalman, Isaac Mizrahi, Amy Trompetter, Maile Okamura, and Nicole Pearce in the creation of new works.
